Fashion Fictions bring people together to generate, experience and reflect on engaging fictional visions of alternative fashion cultures and systems. Through these activities, we gain new perspectives on challenges, possibilities and pathways for change in the real world.

Each world offers a brief sketch of an alternative fashion culture or system, including an explanation of the historical juncture – genuine or invented – which caused this parallel world to split off from our own.

Together, we will be exploring World 220. In World 220, humans have established a new relationship with their garments and stains. The era of bleaches and cleaners that polluted the planet’s waters has come to an end. It is gratifying to stroll through the streets and observe how people proudly display the marks that reflect their life and experiences. In this world, individuals prefer to wear clothing in light tones, whites, and beiges, as they are more prone to getting stained easily.

Bring a stained garment to class that you would like to use. We will offer a variety of materials for your use as well provide demos to embellish, cover and patch our stains. Let’s consider the problems of our clothes today with excitement, imagination and community!

Masking required in class, additional masks will be available.

Accessibility: Previous sewing skills not required. Fine motor skills used in class. Duration of class can be spent seated. If you have questions about accessibility please reach out.
